Three 'Academy' Award nominations for Blacktown

The Blacktown Hospital project has been nominated for three International Academy for Design & Health 'Academy Awards' for best international project, best use of public art and best interior design, making it one of the best hospitals in the world.

The nominations recognise the work of project architects Jacobs for client NSW Health Infrastructure. The awards will be announced at the Design & Health 12th International World Congress & Exhibition in Vienna on 15 July 2017.

“The Blacktown Hospital clinical services building is an outstanding example of a creative, responsive and sympathetic design that meet the needs of patients, carers and staff because it was co-designed with them,” said Health Infrastructure Project Director Andrew Paris.

"It’s an outstanding achievement to be recognised at this international level. It validates our approach to design and the importance of consumer engagement and we are delighted to see Blacktown Hospital representing Australian innovation at this event.”

The colourful hospital design has become a local icon, embraced by the community for its unique, instantly recognisable façade which reflects the diverse multicultural local community.

Architects Jacobs has been involved in the project since its inception in 2011, providing all architecture, health planning and electrical/ICT services.  Jacobs is one of the world’s largest and most diverse providers of full-spectrum technical, professional and construction services.

The successful clinical services building design is also being applied to the new Stage 2 acute services building, to be completed in 2019.

The International Academy for Design & Health is a global non-profit organisation with an interdisciplinary knowledge community dedicated to the stimulation and application of research concerning the interaction between design, health, science, culture and economics.
