The multi-award-winning Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals (BMDH) Expansion Project in Sydney, Australia, is changing the way we care for our community with a major expansion of existing services to meet increasing demand, and the creation of new services to reduce the need to travel out of the area for treatment. The project began in 2012 and has now been recognised nationally and internationally for its iconic design, digital innovation, consumer and clinician engagement, partnerships and communications. To date the project has won 33 awards including overall winner, winner - highly commended, runner-up and finalist awards, and been nominated for another four.

We asked consumer rep Ken how the arts and culture projects changed our hospital. "The arts program here is really about a lot of people getting involved in it… all sections of the community - more than 500 people were involved and it's come together beautifully - everything just has colour. There's colour everywhere, and it changes. You walk through the place and there are photographs coming up on the screens and there are artworks and there's sculptures and it's alive… the whole place is alive." Our art project is part of the APAC Forum: Exploring New Frontiers consumer engagement award finalist entry. Thanks Ko Awatea for recognising the importance of community engagement, and the positive impact of art and culture.
Our Paper-Lite program was recognised in the 2015 NSW Health Awards for innovation and excellence.
