At Blacktown Hospital, we've already completed a range of projects as part of our Stage 1 expansion.

New digital theatre, 2014

Our new digital theatre at Blacktown Hospital elevates our surgical capacity, provides new options for patients, expands the range of services provided locally and offers new opportunities for surgeons and theatre staff.
The new digital theatre can be used for regular surgery but has been purpose-built for laparoscopic, or keyhole, procedures such as emergency laparoscopic surgery, gall bladder removal, colon removals, lung surgery and gynaecological procedures such as tubal ligation and hysterectomy.
It includes sophisticated new technology for image enhancement and manipulation, with the capacity to stream live images for observation and teaching.
The new high tech theatre was created by refurbishing an existing space at Blacktown Hospital.

Internal refurbishment, 2014

They're not the kind of services that usually come to mind when people think about a busy metropoltan hospital, but our doctors and nurses couldn't do what they do without the support of our behind the scenes team.
Our biomedical engineering, food services, engineering & maintenance, and mortuary facilities were given a fresh lease on life in 2014 with extensive internal upgrades to ensure they can successfully support the expanding facilities.
We also created a new central equipment loan pool to improve the storage and delivery of shared equipment.

Multi-storey car park, 2014

The new multistorey car park opened in April 2014 and provides 622 car spaces for patients, carers and staff. There will be more than 1400 car spaces on site by the time Stage 1 is completed including disabled parking, dedicated parking for some types of patients, staff and medical parking.

Melaleuca Unit, 2014

Our Melaleuca Unit provides step-down care for mental health consumers. Completed in 2014, it's a vibrant new facility that's been welcomed by consumers, carers and staff. For more information, go to the Melaleuca Unit page.

Sterilsing serviCes upgrade, 2013

The expanded and upgraded Sterilising Services Department is now considered one of the best in the state.
The service was upgraded in preparation for the expansion of the Blacktown campus.
The addition of new high-tech sterilising equipment has brought the small but extremely busy service into the 21st century.
Cleaning and sterilising more than 11,000 instrument trays per month for Blacktown’s wards and operating theatres, the team can ’reprocess’ anything from bowls to sensitive wireless Bluetooth neoprobes used for breast surgery.
