We're still growing and now Stage 2 of the Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals expansion project is underway.
The NSW Government recognises that our growing and ageing population, and massive expansion in Sydney’s west has fundamentally changed our community and the way we plan our health services.
Stage 2 continues our future service planning, addressing the services that were not covered in Stage 1 or that require further enhancement. It will provide better access to services for the local community by providing more services closer to home and reducing the need to travel out of the area for treatment. We also need to attract and retain valuable healthcare staff by creating contemporary working environments and more opportunities for training, education and research.
At Blacktown Hospital, Stage 2 will create a new hospital building in front of the existing buildings and new facilities for:
We have already completed a new 420-space multi-storey car park, a new covered link into the hospital, a new hospital entry from Panorama Parade and other road improvements to create a more welcoming and easier-to-navigate hospital campus.
Many services currently located in the original hospital building (facing Blacktown Road) will move to the new acute services building.
When they relocate, the original building will be refurbished for endoscopy, gastroenterology, and more outpatient clinics.
The final configuration at Blacktown will be three major blocks, clustered around a central atrium entry providing a visual and physical connection between the buildings.
While planning for the major development is underway, we are starting early works to clear the space and upgrade infrastructure, ready for our high-tech new facilities.
