The local community now benefits from a number of projects completed as part of our Stage 1 expansion.

Emergency department expansion

Mount Druitt Hospital Emergency Dept has expanded into the former main entry area with:
  •  Extra paediatric capcity including a new resuscitation bay (with a paediatric focus) and an additional paediatric treatment bay for children in the main Emergency department.
  •     A refurbished procedure room providing more capacity for adult procedures such as plastering.
  •     Easy access to diagnostic services such as X-ray, other radiology and pathology to help reduce waiting time.
  •     A new ambulance bay with direct covered access to the ED.
To accommodate the expansion, we’ve moved our main entry and created a pleasant and welcoming new entrance for patients and visitors.

new Urgent care centre

A new Urgent Care Centre provides nine extra treatment spaces for urgent, but not critical care e.g. for stitches,  fractures, simple eye injuries. The Urgent Care Centre includes a plaster room, eye room and suture room for fast assessment, treatment and discharge.

Dental Unit expansion

Our recently expanded Mount Druitt Hospital Oral Health Centre has the capacity to treat up to 40 extra patients per day, with eight new dental chairs in purpose-built treatment rooms.
The unit has been expanded an upgraded to provide a more pleasant and patient-friendly environment, with a welcoming new entry and reception, light-filled courtyard and pleasant treatment room.
New state-of-the-art sterilising equipment has been installed to manage increased equipment use.
The expanded facility will have the capacity for dental student training on rotation from the main dental centre at Westmead.

Aged Care & Rehabilitation Unit

The Aged Care & Rehabilitation Unit at Mount Druitt has been expanded to meet the community’s growing need for rehabilitation following stroke or surgery, and for frail elderly, before returning home.
The project includes:
  •      10 new sub-acute rehabilitation beds in an expanded unit (to add to 20 existing beds).
  •     New treatment spaces
  •     Day area including dining room and veranda
  •     New and refurbished gym areas for allied health therapies
  •     Activities of daily living (ADL) kitchen to help regain confidence with everyday tasks
  •     New meeting and interview rooms
  •     Pleasant garden outlook
  •     New undercover ambulance bay for patient transport
  •     $28 million funding from Australian Government
  •     Opened May 2014.

Parking upgrades

Parking areas have been upgraded with new lighting, line marking and footpaths to improve safety.

Fast track to urgent care

Stage 2 News

Further expansion is planned for Mt Druitt in Stage 2 of the project. Staff, patients and carers are currently planning expanded facilities for increased surgical capacity, new dialysis treatment spaces, increased medical imaging and expanded drug health services to meet growing demand.
